My new DIY Gaming PC vs Aftershock S15 laptop review

My new Razer peripherals
Me and my new gaming setup!

I've started gaming way back in 2009 (or perhaps even earlier - since 2005, if you count Maplestory, AuditionSEA, BattleOn and Runescape). Who cares about the age old adage saying that only guys/men game?? I know quite a few girls that game, and they're honestly pretty cool friends to keep (hint hint, guys).

Since I started seriously gaming (World of Warcraft, Dota 2 etc), I've always dreamed of having my own gaming setup, complete with a gaming chair, gaming peripherals, and a custom built PC (although RGB LED peripherals and PC parts were not available way back then).

After dreaming about it for 8 years or so, I've finally gotten everything that I've wanted!! Even though the specs of my rig isn't maxed out - because why should it be? I'm not dirt rich and I don't require that kind of performance from my PC, I managed to get quite a good deal and still get a high performance rig that looks good and has RGB lights!!!

This clean setup was only possible as I recently moved house and got my dream room too! It has a girly side and a manly side hahaha.

I've been very lucky so far to win a Samsung 24" Curved LED Gaming Monitor CFG70 from GameStart Asia 2017, through a Facebook giveaway, which allowed me to spend more on my main rig!

I also won a Razer Basilisk FPS Gaming Mouse, courtesy of Nvidia GeForce Singapore, also through a Facebook giveaway.

My new gaming rig and setup

And without further ado, here are the specifications of my new gaming rig and gaming setup!

I'll definitely clean up the wires abit on the back and post a cleaner photo, as I took the photo after everything was setup and running nicely!

Compared to my Aftershock S15 GTX970m, I could run The Witcher 3 and PUBG on Ultra settings, hitting above 60fps at all times, and that upgrade in graphics and performance really felt so good that I could stay home all day just to immerse myself in Witcher 3 if i didn't have to go apply for jobs and run some errands and meet friends, haha.

Aftershock S15 GTX970m with Razer Abyssus and Steelseries QCK mousepad

But either way, my Aftershock S15 GTX970m has really served me well these past 2 years since I bought it in November 2015.

I brought it over to Shanghai for my 6 months exchange and internship, and I was able to game perfectly fine, and I even carried it, together with the charger, in my bagpack everyday to and from my workplace (all because I wanted to bring it home to game, and I needed it at work to do some work on Illustrator/Photoshop).

Although currently it lags sometimes when playing PUBG, and I can't bring the graphics higher than "Low", it is still a good laptop that is worth its price, considering that the parts can be customized to your needs - unlike some other gaming laptops that come prebuilt, and even costs more than the Aftershock S15!!

As of now, the Aftershock S15 can even be fitted with desktop grade gaming graphics - the GTX1060, GTX1070 and GTX1080, for the same price as I bought it 2 years ago (~$2400SGD), making it even more worth for money!

So thank you, Aftershock, for providing quality service, whenever I have to repaste my thermal paste every 3 months due to my overusage of the laptop (I game too much...), and even changing my battery and keyboard for free when the warranty was over!

Well, if you guys have any questions about my rig don't hesitate to hit me up! :) I don't bite!
